Clashes broke out at Yengangpokpi today when Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) attempted to move towards Gwaltabi to return to their abandoned homes. Security forces blocked the march, triggering a confrontation that left several IDPs injured along with a journalist from a local television channel.
The injured IDPs are currently undergoing treatment at the Yaingangpokpi Primary Health Centre.
The protesting IDPs reiterated their stand that holding the Sangai Festival while thousands remain displaced is unacceptable. They argued that if the state believes Manipur is stable enough to host a major festival, then resettlement efforts should be prioritised.
Heavy deployment continues in the Yengangpokpi–Gwaltabi area as authorities monitor the situation.
