Taking a pledge to safeguard the rights of Indigenous people for creating a future enabling environment, prominent Indigenous leaders and personalities from across the region came together in Imphal and signed a declaration observing the ‘World’s Indigenous Peoples-2025’.
The declaration affirms a collective stand for demographic balance, a stand against illegal immigration, and the preservation of the distinctive identity and ancestral land of Indigenous people. It also renewed their unity in the region in combating illicit drugs and upholding the right to self-determination.
The declaration was made during the ‘World’s Indigenous Peoples-2025’ event at City Convention in Imphal hosted by the Indigenous People’s Forum, Manipur (IPFM), under the aegis of the North East Indigenous People’s Forum (NEIPF).
The event saw large participation from various states of the region with cultural performances and was attended by Tripura titular King Pradyot Manikya Deb Barma, NPF Legislature Party leader Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, and Ranjit Debbarma as chief guest and guest of honor, among others.
The signatories to the declaration included NEIPF Chairman Anup Chetia, NIPF President Dr. Lina Tlang, leaders from Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, and Manipur, and NEIPF executives.
