Imphal West DC Orders Eviction of Encroachments Along Rivers and Channels

The Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West, Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, has issued an eviction order for encroachers along key rivers and drainage channels to prevent flooding in the district. The decision follows directives from the Inter-Departmental Coordination Meeting on ‘Cleanliness of Imphal City,’ held on March 7, 2025.

Encroachments along Waisel Naril, Naga Nallah, the eastern bank of the Nambul River from Keishampat to Keishamthong, and the Elangbam Leikai stretch of the Nambul River have been identified for eviction. Unauthorized structures, including houses, shops, sheds, and water pump installations, have been obstructing natural water flow and contributing to floods in several localities.

Reports submitted by the Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) of Wangoi and Lamphel identified 158 illegal structures—50 in Wangoi and 108 in Lamphel. The eviction process is to be completed by April 19, 2025. Encroachers must vacate voluntarily before the deadline, failing which eviction will be carried out by authorities without further notice.

Claims and objections can be submitted to the DC or the concerned SDOs before the deadline. Costs of dismantling structures will be charged to the encroachers wherever applicable. The Water Resources Department has been tasked with facilitating the eviction process.
