Imphal West District Administration Removes Illegal Roadside Encroachments

The Imphal West District Administration, in coordination with security personnel and revenue officials, launched an eviction drive today to clear unauthorised structures and encroachments from public roads and footpaths across the district.

The operation began along the Keishampat to Malom stretch following an official order issued on July 4, directing the removal of all illegal occupancies that obstruct traffic and public movement. Despite several notices served over the past few years—including in 2022, 2024, and earlier this year—illegal occupation persisted, prompting the administration to take firm action after the July 11 deadline for voluntary removal expired.

The Deputy Commissioner leading the operation stated that the district would recover removal charges from the concerned parties. If unpaid within 10 days, further penal action would be initiated. The administration also warned that similar drives would be conducted in other areas, including the Uripok stretch.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner present at the site reiterated that the drive targeted all forms of encroachments, including unauthorised business extensions, materials, and roadside obstructions. Construction materials, wires, tyres, and makeshift stalls were among the items demolished and cleared during the operation.

The district authorities urged the public to cooperate in preserving public infrastructure and maintaining clear roads and footpaths for the safety and benefit of all residents.
