Imphal West Marks 16th National Voters’ Day with Focus on Youth Participation

Imphal, January 25, 2026: The 16th National Voters’ Day was celebrated at the DC Office Complex in Imphal West on Sunday as part of a nationwide observance aimed at strengthening democratic participation. The event was organised under the theme “My India, My Vote”, with the tagline Citizen at the Heart of Indian Democracy.

Addressing the gathering, the District Election Officer said a painting competition was organised as part of the celebrations to engage students and promote awareness about elections and democracy. Students from different Assembly Constituencies of Imphal West district participated, and entries were evaluated purely on merit. The officer encouraged students to take part in such activities regardless of results and appealed to them to enrol as voters once they turn 18.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner-II highlighted the significance of National Voters’ Day, stating that the observance serves as a reminder of citizens’ voting rights and responsibilities. He noted that despite having a high literacy rate, Imphal West continues to lag in electoral enrolment, and urged officials and citizens alike to actively support the election process.

As part of the programme, a Voters’ Pledge was administered, reaffirming commitment to democratic values. Cash prizes, certificates, special awards and consolation prizes were distributed to students who participated in the painting competition. An interaction session with students and newly enrolled voters was also held.

Senior district officials, election officers, newly registered voters and students attended the event.
