It feels surreal for all of us at Team Manipur Update to learn of the passing of Padmashree Th. Suryamukhi Devi—a true icon of Manipuri Performing Arts.
Just a few months ago, we had the privilege of visiting her at her residence for an exclusive interview. That visit wasn’t just another assignment for us—it was a moment of deep honour. Meeting her so closely after she received the Padmashree was inspiring beyond words. She welcomed us with warmth and humility, sharing her life, her art, and her dreams for the next generation. It is a memory we hold dearly.
Today, on 29th June 2025, we are heartbroken to hear that she has left for her heavenly abode after a period of illness. The news hits even harder knowing we had recently sat with her, listened to her stories, and celebrated her journey.
From all of us at Team Manipur Update, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones. Her absence leaves a deep void, but her spirit and legacy will live on through her work and through all the lives she touched.
