March 22, 2025: In Senapati district of Manipur, on this World Water Day, around 2,000 people from various walks of life came together and cleaned an 8 km long stretch of Senapati River from Mt. Everest College parking to Kathikho Karong.
The joint cleanliness drive, titled ‘Clean Senapati River Campaign,’ under the theme ‘Keep it Clean, Keep it Flowing,’ also collected 40 tonnes of garbage (mixed waste) during the drive, which was later disposed of at a designated place by the Karong Senapati Town Committee.
The campaign will take place until March 25, focusing on black spot areas of the river. It was undertaken as an initiative of the District Administration of Senapati, led by Deputy Commissioner Mamoni Doley, IAS, and accompanied by Rang David Kung, MCS, ADM/ADC, Senapati, and Adahrii Maheo, MCS, ADC/CEO, Senapati.
The campaign aims at restoring and preserving Senapati River, which is the lifeline of the town. It is a step towards environmental preservation, ensuring that river pollution is controlled and that it remains a resource for future generations. This campaign seeks to raise awareness, engage communities, and foster collective action to combat pollution and promote river conservation.
