Tiddim Road in Imphal West witnessed a powerful wave of defiance yesterday as hundreds marched in protest against what organisers described as “India’s policy to obliterate Manipur.”
The mass rally, spearheaded by the All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO), was held in collaboration with POREI LEIMAROL, AMAWOVA, COHR, and the Manipur Students’ Federation (MSF).
The demonstration came in response to the MAHAR Regiment’s controversial act of covering the word “Manipur” on a State Transport bus ferrying media personnel to Ukhrul for the Shirui Festival.
They accused the central establishment of waging a systematic campaign to marginalise Manipur, citing the recent incident as a blatant example of symbolic erasure.
Speakers at the rally called the act “an insult to Manipur’s history, its people, and its place within the Indian Union.” They warned that continued attempts to suppress the state’s identity would only deepen the divide.
The demonstration remained peaceful yet emotionally charged, as women leaders, students, and civil society groups walked in unison, raising slogans and asserting Manipur’s distinct legacy.
