INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2026 CELEBRATIONS AT SENAPATI

Senapati, the 08th March, 2026 (DIO–IPR): The Senapati district joined the global celebrations for International Women’s Day today at Astro Turf Ground, Senapati. The event was organised by Mera Yuva Bharat (MYB) Senapati in coordination with the District Youth Affairs and Sports Office, Senapati; Khelo India Centre Senapati; the Senapati District Indigenous Wrestling Academy; and the Badminton Association, Senapati.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner of Senapati, Mamoni Doley, IAS, extended her warmest wishes to the women and girls. She remarked that while today is a designated celebration, the spirit of mutual support and appreciation should be practiced daily. She encouraged the gathering, especially the young girls, to seize opportunities and excel in their chosen fields without self-doubt.

The DC placed significant emphasis on financial stability as a cornerstone of empowerment, noting that having a personal source of income grants women the power to make their own life decisions. She further urged them never to compromise on their education or career opportunities. She also conveyed her best wishes to all the participants taking part in today’s sports event.

Delivering the special address, Koshia Mao, Public Prosecutor and Government Advocate, Government of Manipur, spoke on the theme “Give to Gain,” noting that supporting and investing in women leads to broader societal progress. She highlighted the legal protections and educational rights of women enshrined in the Indian Constitution, describing them as a shield for women. She urged the audience to be bold in claiming these protections and cited several exemplary women who have reached the pinnacle of their professions.

In the welcome note, W. Paulina Monsang, Deputy Director, MYB Senapati, welcomed the gathering and introduced the ASMITA initiative — a flagship programme under the Khelo India scheme for women. She also highlighted today’s activities such as 100m, 200m, and 400m races alongside team games such as football and tug of war. She emphasized the importance of sporting culture and encouraged participants to value the spirit of sportsmanship and the long-term benefits of physical health over merely winning games.

As part of the programme, the DC, Senapati officially declared the sports meet open. The programme concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners and runners-up.

The programme was also attended by Paulina Monsang, Deputy Director, MYB Senapati; P.S. John Longkhaye, Youth Officer, DYASO Senapati; Pforkrehrii, Khelo India Badminton Mentor, Senapati; P.S. Khopuh, Khelo India Indigenous Wrestling Mentor; and students.
