Thoubal, Mar 08— Along with the rest of the world, International Women’s Day was organised in various places across Thoubal district on Sunday.
The Integrated Rural Development Service Organisation (IRDSO), located in Wangjing, Thoubal district, in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, Thoubal District Branch, and the Women’s In Governance (WiNG) Thoubal Chapter, organised a Blood Donation Camp as part of International Women’s Day at the Thoubal District Hospital in Khangabok.
Regarding the camp, Nonibala Narengbam, Chief Functionary of IRDSO and Convenor of WiNG Thoubal Chapter, stated that today’s International Women’s Day event was organised with the motto “Red is Life, Give to Gain.”
She also conveyed the respect and appreciation of WiNG Manipur members, the IRDSO team, and all the donors who participated in today’s blood donation camp, along with the Indian Red Cross Society, Thoubal. It is reported that a total of 15 people, including 8 men and 7 women, donated blood at today’s camp.
Meanwhile, under the guidance of the Manipur State Legal Services Authority, the District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal, and the Legal Aid Clinic, Kiyam Leitanpok, jointly organised a Free Mega Health Camp at Ayushman Arogya Mandir (PHSC), Kiyam Leitanpok, in connection with International Women’s Day 2026 with the theme “Give to Gain.”
In this health camp, various specialist doctors, including ENT specialists, physicians, gynecologists, dermatologists, and general physicians, provided free check-ups and medicines to approximately 250 women.
In connection with this health camp, patients in need were also provided with free diagnostic tests under KRSNAA Diagnostics.
Regarding this free health camp, Thingujam Arunkumar Singh, Coordinator of the Legal Aid Clinic, Kiyam Leitanpok, informed that although Kiyam Leitanpok is about 7 kilometers away from the Thoubal District Hospital, residents of this area—especially women and children—face financial difficulties, lack of transportation, and limited access to medical practitioners.
Furthermore, the area has a Primary Health Centre (PHC) which is often without doctors and essential medicines, making it a place that suffers greatly from diseases. The Muslim community in this area, in particular, has limited knowledge and awareness about health issues, and many face challenges in accessing even basic necessities. This contributes to various health problems among women.
He stated that organising a Mega Free Health Camp in such a remote area with transportation challenges could benefit the people of this region, especially women.
He further expressed his gratitude to the Chief Medical Officer, Thoubal, and his staff for their significant support in organising today’s camp.
Meanwhile, the Scheme Workers Union, AITUC Heirok, also organised an event for International Women’s Day at Devi Mandap Leikai, Heirok Part (II).
Several leaders, including L. Sotinkumar, General Secretary of AITUC, and Advocate Kh. Shamungou, Secretary of AITUC, participated as presidium members in today’s event.
Speaking about today’s events organised with the motto “Give to Gain,” L. Sotinkumar elaborated on the reasons behind organising International Women’s Day celebrations.
He further stated that all women from economically backward families should receive free education up to graduation and that all households should receive equal opportunities. Additionally, he proposed that if married women work for more than 8 hours, they should be paid extra wages.
ASHA workers and many women participated in today’s event.
