Thoubal, March 03 : The observance of International Writers’ Day was held on Tuesday at Khorirol Sanglel, Wangjing, organized jointly by Khorirol Sandok-lup, Wangjing; Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Thoubal District Branch; and Ningol Khut Manipur, Wangjing.
The event highlighted the significant role played by writers in shaping society through literature and other genres.
Their contributions to social awareness and intellectual growth were acknowledged as the central theme of the programme.
The function was presided over by Tongbram Babulal, President of Khorirol Sandok-lup, Wangjing; Dr. Yumnam Mahendra Kumar, President of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Thoubal District Branch; and Khundongbam Gunamani Leima, President of Ningol Khut Manipur, Wangjing.
On the occasion, Pathou Mangang (Anjit Ningthouja), Secretary of the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Thoubal District Branch, welcomed the gathering and elaborated on the significance of observing World Writers’ Day. Renowned writer Nahakpam Biren, in his keynote address, spoke on the importance and purpose of celebrating the day.
The speakers emphasized that writers play a crucial role in guiding society by presenting meaningful literary works. They noted that literary figures across the world have shaped human thought and values through their writings. Citing examples of great writers such as William Shakespeare and Khwairakpam Chaoba, the speakers stated that literature helps society understand human life, culture, and moral values.
During the first technical session, renowned writer Ningthou Naoriya presented a paper on “World Writers’ Day: Internal Theme,” while renowned writer Bhorot Sanasam delivered a presentation on “The Role of Writers in Society,” highlighting the responsibilities of writers in promoting social harmony and awareness.
The speakers further stressed that writers have consistently contributed towards social reform, national consciousness, and the preservation of cultural identity. They observed that through their words, writers inspire love for the nation, unity among communities, compassion, and a sense of collective responsibility.
The second session of the programme featured a poetry recitation meet, adding vibrancy to the observance. State awardee writer Saikhom Chaoba and Kartik Maiba, President of SAYOKA Tentha, attended as presidium members. More than ten poets recited their original poems during the session.
The event witnessed active participation from literature enthusiasts, making the observance meaningful and impactful.
