With the increasing level of water and the widening of the inundation area in the JNIMS compound since last night, the functioning of the only state-owned health institute has been greatly affected after waters rose to the ground floor of some wards.
The staff, including doctors and nurses, are making extraordinary efforts for patient care and to overcome the challenges, and water has now reached the antenatal ward, one operating theater, the ortho ward, the surgery ward, and the X-ray room.
The hospital authorities now fear that if the water level continues to rise, it may affect the power and water supply for the institute, which in turn may affect patient care. The Institute Superintendent has been overseeing the situation to ensure it doesn’t affect patients’ healthcare and other emergency activities. If the situation worsens, then referral services will be used, especially to RIMS, if necessary.
Flood rescue volunteers can also be seen with lifeboats, helping the hospital and shifting out patients from wards that have now been covered by water.
