The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has initiated an internal enquiry to determine the cause of death of 52-year-old Hijam Ibemcha, a patient admitted on August 14 and who died on August 19 while preparing for knee surgery at the hospital.
The JAC formed in connection with the death has suspended the indefinite bandh imposed at Sekmai along the Imphal-Dimapur Road today, after an understanding between the RIMS authority and the JAC representatives. However, the JAC stated it would be compelled to resume the bandh if their demands are not met.
The hospital is likely to conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. RIMS has also expressed sorrow and condolences to the bereaved family and pledged cooperation with all investigations.
Mention may be made that the deceased, Hijam Ibemcha, was admitted to the hospital on August 14 for a bone fracture on her right leg and was scheduled to undergo an operation (open reduction and internal fixation – ORIF) on August 19.
