JFD Held Public Discourse for Fair Census After NRC

Advocating for a correct data-based census survey in Manipur only after the NRC exercise or implementing a similar mechanism, the Campaign for Just & Fair Delimitation (JFD) reached out to the people of Pourabi in Imphal areas along with the Pourabi Development Committee (PDC) for public discourse.

The JFD Convener, Jeetendra Ningomba, opined that it wouldn’t be opportune or correct to conduct a census survey in Manipur due to the prevailing conflict situation, which includes no free movement for some ethnic communities in certain areas and the breakdown of law and order in some hill regions.

He added that the current fiasco is due to the influx of illegal immigrants. It would be difficult to sort out outsiders settling in the state, and therefore, the census needs to be delayed in accordance with Section 3 of the Census Act of 1948.
