Feb. 4, 2025: Jiribam district in Manipur witnessed a complete halt in daily activities as various local organizations enforced a 24-hour shutdown, impacting shops, schools, and workplaces.
The shutdown, organized by the Jiribam District Hospital Monitoring Committee with support from Rongmei Naga Luu Phawm Manipur and other prominent groups, aimed to press for critical infrastructure upgrades and staffing improvements at Jiribam Hospital.
District Police and CRPF personnel were deployed to maintain order during the shutdown, which saw minimal movement of people and the suspension of passenger vehicle services across the district.
Ph. Montessori, an executive member of the District Hospital Monitoring Committee, emphasized that such actions will continue until the state government addresses their demands, including the appointment of qualified medical staff and the provision of necessary medical supplies.
The shutdown highlighted the community’s persistent advocacy for enhanced healthcare facilities, reflecting broader concerns about infrastructure and administrative support in Jiribam district.
