Jiribam Leads Peace Efforts as Communities Unite in Historic Interaction

APRIL 04, 2026 (JIRI): Jiribam district of Manipur is going to set an example for rallying towards a peace track, as the district has witnessed a joint gathering of communities for peace dialogue in the aftermath of the Manipur violence.

Addressing a Community Interaction Programme held at New Alipur Rongmei Naga Village in Bidyanagar, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said the district had set an example for the state by bringing people together on a common platform after prolonged unrest. He noted that the willingness of different communities to engage collectively reflects a positive shift towards reconciliation.

During the visit—his second to the district since assuming office—the Chief Minister interacted with internally displaced persons belonging to Meitei, Kuki, Paite, and Hmar communities. Participants shared concerns including safety, livelihood challenges, and access to government employment in remote areas. The Chief Minister said the initiative aimed at bridging trust gaps and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to assisting displaced families, including support for housing.

Some community representatives expressed readiness to return home, while also acknowledging ongoing efforts by local leaders in maintaining peace. The Chief Minister assured that while not every demand could be immediately fulfilled, the government would continue working to address the needs of affected families.

Earlier in the day, he travelled over 220 km by road to reach Jiribam. He also inspected Jiribam District Hospital at Ningshingkhul, where he highlighted the shortage of specialist doctors and called for a transparent transfer policy to strengthen healthcare services in the district.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by several BJP MLAs and state party leaders during the visit.
