Kakching, February 9: Against the backdrop of Manipur witnessing a prolonged period of instability and having remained under President’s Rule for nearly a year, a popular government has now been formed. On a priority basis, work on the highly significant NH-137(A), which connects Imphal to Kakching Lamkhai, has been divided into two packages and undertaken at a total cost of Rs. 59,77,01,836. The project was formally flagged off on Monday.
However, the Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO) has expressed strong demands for the inclusion of Kakching district in the newly formed Council of Ministers led by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand.
The organisation conveyed this concern through a press statement jointly issued by its President, Ksh. Chhatradhari, and Secretary, Nongmaithem Bheigyachandra.
In the statement, JNGVO appealed to Bharatia Infra Project Limited, the company executing the project, to ensure that construction work is carried out with proper quality standards even during the ongoing monsoon season. The organisation particularly stressed the importance of maintaining high construction quality on the Wabagai Lamkhai–Sugnu–Serou stretch, including the Indo–Myanmar Sugnu Road, which frequently faces difficulties due to flooding and poor road conditions.
The statement further noted that the new Chief Minister, Yumnam Khemchand, has assured decisive action to restore peace in Manipur, rehabilitate internally displaced persons (IDPs) by resettling them in their respective homes, and ensure free movement along national highways. JNGVO stated that it has taken note of these assurances with cautious optimism.
