The protest by resident doctors at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) has intensified, with doctors announcing a complete boycott of emergency services starting from 9 AM, May 26, 2025.
The decision comes after a prolonged standoff over the hike in annual post-graduate course fees, which escalated from 1 lakh to 3 lakhs in 2022.
In a unified voice, the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) of JNIMS expressed disappointment over authorities’ failure to revert to the original fee structure despite ongoing negotiations since February 2025.
The RDA, comprising a significant 70% of the hospital’s medical workforce, initially suspended routine services on May 21, 2025, further exacerbating the strain on hospital operations.
The RDA emphasized that while emergency care remains a priority, the decision to boycott these critical services highlights their resolve to secure fair educational costs for future doctors.
