March 7, 2025: Creating a milestone for the first time during this ongoing conflict in Manipur, the Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) and the Meitei Alliance have jointly declared their commitment to standing together for one inseparable, united Manipur that preserves and promotes the state as a cohesive and harmonious multi-ethnic society.
In a joint statement, the two bodies declared their support for the “Recognition of the original inhabitants of Manipur, including all its original communities, and the updating of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).” They also emphasized taking a collaborative approach and community action to address specific, genuine concerns of the communities of Manipur while safeguarding the larger collective interests of the state.
The declaration, jointly signed by TIM President M. James Thadou and Meitei Alliance leader Sagolsem Biramani, also called for the delisting of vague or fake nomenclature, such as “Any Kuki Tribes,” from the Scheduled Tribes List of Manipur.
The joint meeting further highlighted the acknowledgment of the bold leadership and aspirations of Thadou Inpi Manipur to preserve and promote the Thadou identity as independent and distinct from Kuki and emphasized the need for concerted efforts to overcome misidentification and misinterpretation of community identities.
