Joint Meet on Gender Discrimination and Role of PC-PNDT Held in Imphal

A joint meeting of the State Advisory Committee (SAC), State Appropriate Authority (SAA), and the State PC-PNDT Cell was held at the Office Chamber of the Director of Family Welfare Services, Manipur. The meeting was chaired by Dr. N. Hemantakumar Singh, Director of Family Welfare Services.

The session focused on strengthening the implementation of the Preconception and Prenatal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act, aimed at prohibiting sex determination and improving the sex ratio in the state. Dr. Hemantakumar Singh emphasized the ethical responsibility of ultrasound machine operators and highlighted the importance of adequate infrastructure and trained personnel.

Dr. Sujata Huidrom, State Nodal Officer for PC & PNDT, presented detailed reports on activities across the state, including awareness programmes, workshops, and inspections by SIMC and DIMC at ultrasound and genetic clinics in several districts.

Tenshubam Sangeeta, Joint Director (IPR) and SAC Member, highlighted the efforts of District Information Offices in spreading awareness through the press and social media.

The PC-PNDT Act seeks to safeguard the girl child by penalizing sex determination practices and serves as a deterrent against gender discrimination.
