Joint Meeting on PC-PNDT Programme Held at Imphal Directorate

A joint meeting of the State Advisory Committee, State Appropriate Authority, and State PC-PNDT Cell was convened at the Directorate of Family Welfare Services, Imphal, on 3rd September to assess the role of the Preconception and Prenatal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) programme in addressing gender discrimination and improving the sex ratio.

Chairing the session, Director of Family Welfare Services Dr. N. Hemantakumar Singh highlighted the need for strict monitoring of violations under the PC-PNDT Act. The Act regulates prenatal diagnostic techniques for medical purposes only, requires registration and licensing of diagnostic centers, and penalizes misuse for sex determination.

State Nodal Officer Dr. Sujata Huidrom presented activities conducted over the past three months, including district-level meetings, awareness workshops, sensitization programmes, and training for public prosecutors.

Members of the State Advisory Committee, including Addl. Director FWS Dr. Somorjit Ningombam, JD/Chairman SSA Dr. Irengbam Soniya, JD FWS Dr. S. Ingocha Singh, and other legal and medical experts, participated in the discussions, emphasizing the importance of enforcement, public awareness, and protection of the girl child.
