In a significant leadership transition, senior photojournalist Asem Bhakta Singh of Hyderabad Headlines has been elected as the President of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) for the 2025–2027 term. The election was held on Thursday at the Manipur Press Club.
Out of 370 registered AMWJU members, 346 cast their votes, reflecting an impressive voter turnout and active participation in the union’s democratic process.
Asem Bhakta Singh secured 192 votes to defeat Bijoy Kakchingtabam, Associate Editor of Poknapham Daily, who received 144 votes—a winning margin of 48 votes.
Alongside the presidential election, eight journalists were elected to the AMWJU Standing Committee. The full list of elected members is as follows:

- Konthoujam Gita Devi, Reporter, Imphal Times – 198 votes
- Thingbaijam Lakhikanta Singh, Reporter, Paojel – 190 votes
- Sonia Sorensangbam, Senior Reporter, Poknapham – 158 votes
- Leimapokpam Shanjitkumar Singh (Bhakta), Reporter, Eikhogi Panthung – 157 votes
- Haobam Pravinkumar Singh, Reporter, Ichel Express – 156 votes
- Khwairakpam Naoba Singh, Senior Reporter, ISTV News – 155 votes
- Suraj Chanam Singh, Senior Reporter, Kangleipakki Meira – 136 votes
Certificates of election were formally handed over to the successful candidates by the Returning Officer, marking the official conclusion of the electoral process.
