JAN 17, 2026 (IMP): Stressing the recent alleged act of hegemonic exercise by armed cadres of KNF/UPF at Ireng Liangmai Naga village, the Joint Tribe Council (JTC), comprising the Zeme, Liangmai, Rongmei, and Inpui tribes, came together and condemned the act of Kuki armed cadres for vandalism and intimidation after intruding into the village.
The JTC also convened an emergency meeting at Makhan Liangmai village in Senapati District on Saturday and resolved to effect an immediate ban on interaction with Kuki groups in all social, economic, and professional activities until further notice. It also resolved to demand that the state authorities identify and nab the culprits involved in the incidents of January 11 and 12.
The meeting stressed the infringement on Naga traditional rights, including ownership of land and resources and the right to live with dignity, according to a JTC statement to the media.
The meeting also took note of the government’s failure to honour the MoU signed on August 8, 2025, between FNCC and the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Home), Government of Manipur. The MoU includes halting or removing the proposed establishment of SoO camps of Kuki militants in Naga areas and along national highways, banning unauthorized construction of the Kangchup–Jaojangtek road, and eradicating mass poppy plantations in the region and the state.
