Imphal : Jan 17
Ukhrul’s District and Sessions Judge, Reena Serto, extended her support to the Free Blood for Children scheme by donating a unit of her blood at the Blood Centre, JNIMS, Imphal East, on Friday.
The scheme, launched by Helping Hands for People on January 14, aims to provide free blood to paediatric patients in need.
Speaking about the initiative, Judge Reena Serto highlighted the importance of the Supreme Court’s directive, which mandates providing blood to Thalassemia patients without requiring replacements.
She added, “Helping Hands for People, Manipur, has introduced a groundbreaking scheme, the first of its kind in India, to provide free blood to paediatric patients without replacement. This initiative will significantly benefit the people of Manipur, especially children battling life-threatening conditions.”
The Judge urged the public to actively support the cause by donating blood and emphasised the need to replenish blood stocks at blood centres. She remarked, “Science has advanced, but artificial blood creation is still impossible. Donating blood is the only way to ensure a sufficient stock for those in need. By donating, we save lives, particularly of children who represent the future.”
Expressing their gratitude, Helping Hands for People conveyed their heartfelt thanks to the Judge, acknowledging her invaluable contribution to the cause and describing her support as a source of inspiration for others to join the mission to save lives.
The scheme is expected to make a lasting impact in Manipur, providing timely assistance to paediatric patients while fostering a culture of voluntary blood donation across the state.
