Feb. 16, 2025: The last rites of 15-year-old Laishram Malemnganba, tragically gunned down by unknown assailants near Angom Leikai and Moirang Kampu in Imphal East on February 10, were held today in his birthplace, Moirang Kampu Awang Leikai. His body was retrieved earlier in the day from the JNIMS morgue.
Moirangthem Surkumar, Convenor of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in response to the murder, assured that the ceremony took place following police assurances that the culprits would soon be apprehended. Surkumar further revealed that the police had identified the names of the suspects.
“The perpetrators must explain the motive behind this heinous act,” Surkumar said, adding that the JAC would continue to demand justice and hold the authorities accountable until those responsible were punished.
