K. Vashum Links Fewer Road Mishaps to Awareness, Flags Off Marathons for Road Safety

Feb. 1, 2025: Transport Minister Kashim Vashum today attributed the reduction in road mishap rates in Manipur to the growing public awareness about road safety.

He made this statement while flagging off the half and fun marathon events, which were part of the National Road Safety Month 2025 observance, held at the City Convention Centre in Imphal.

Vashum emphasised the importance of educating the public on road safety, particularly as the state sees an increase in traffic volume.

The Minister highlighted the various road safety programs organised by the state’s Transport Department across all districts. The initiatives aim to ensure that every resident is aware of road safety measures. Vashum explained that such programs were essential to curb accidents and promote a culture of safer road use.

He urged everyone to follow traffic rules diligently, stressing that public participation in these programs plays a crucial role in reducing road mishaps.

The event also witnessed the presence of Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam and Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai. Around 200 participants took part in the marathons, one being a 21-kilometer half marathon and the other a 5-kilometer fun marathon. The participants highlighted the importance of road safety awareness through this initiative, which aimed to not only promote physical fitness but also reinforce the significance of safe driving and responsible behavior on the roads.
