Kakching Aligns With National 100-Day Campaign to Create a Child-Marriage-Free India

Kakching district on 27 November 2025 joined the nationwide rollout of the 100-day intensive campaign under Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat, reinforcing India’s goal of ending child marriage by 2030. The district’s observance began with a pledge ceremony at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, where Additional Deputy Commissioner P. Shantikumar Singh led staff from the administration, District Child Protection Unit, and Child Marriage Prevention Officers in committing to the cause.

Similar pledge events were held across the district, including in schools under the Zonal Education Office, various Gram Sabhas, and Child Care Institutions. These activities aimed to deepen awareness, encourage community vigilance, and promote shared responsibility for the protection of women and children.

The Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat campaign, launched nationally on 27 November 2024, adopts a “Whole of Government” and “Whole of Society” approach. It focuses on strengthening village-level institutions, promoting mandatory marriage registration, and empowering women to speak against child marriage within their communities. Faith leaders and local organisations are also being urged to refuse participation in underage marriages.

A key component of the initiative is improving the capacity of law-enforcement and child-protection agencies to respond promptly to complaints. The campaign further seeks to ensure that survivors of child marriage receive proper education, rehabilitation, and support.
