Kakching District joined the nationwide celebration of the 79th Independence Day with a district-level programme at the District Sports Association Ground, Kakching Turel Wangma. Deputy Commissioner Rohit Anand, who hoisted the National Flag in the presence of Superintendent of Police Priyadarshini Laishram, reported a drop in internally displaced persons from over 5,500 to about 3,000, with more than 2,000 having returned home. Housing support for 364 families has been sanctioned, with 60 already settled, and 34 relief camps remain operational.
He highlighted schemes such as Mission Vatsalya for students in relief camps, proposals for a new Circuit House and Administrative Block, progress under Jal Jeevan Mission with over 78,000 tap water connections, and social welfare pensions for more than 8,000 beneficiaries. The health sector recorded over 18,000 OPD patients and 22 successful deliveries, while sports infrastructure proposals and ration distribution under NFSA and AAY schemes were also outlined.
The celebration included a parade of 28 contingents from security agencies, schools, and civic organisations; seven cultural performances; a mock drill by the Indian Red Cross Society; yoga and Wushu demonstrations; and the release of the first issue of Kakching Today magazine. Appreciation certificates were awarded to district employees. Senior officials and residents attended the event.
