An awareness programme promoting the concept of fortified foods was held in Kakching to highlight their role in enhancing the nutritional value and safety of meals distributed through government schemes, particularly Anganwadi centres.
The one-day event, organised by the Food Safety Administration, Kakching in collaboration with the ICDS Project, Kakching and the Department of Social Welfare, was conducted at the Auditorium Hall of the Library and Information Centre.
Subject expert S. Surendro Singh, Food Safety Officer, presented on “Food Fortification and Good Manufacturing and Hygienic Practices,” explaining how fortification with essential vitamins and minerals can combat nutritional deficiencies. The session also featured a food sample testing demonstration by Ch. Sanajaoba Meitei, State Food Analyst, Medical Directorate.
The programme drew participation from Anganwadi workers, helpers, officials, and community members, aiming to strengthen awareness of nutrition and hygiene standards in food distribution.
