The first round of National Deworming Day 2026 was officially launched in Kakching district today at Langmeidong Higher Secondary School, marking the beginning of a district-wide health campaign targeting children.
Organised by the District Health Society Kakching in collaboration with the Zonal Education Office, the programme saw around 100 students administered deworming tablets at the launch event.
With the rollout, tablets are being distributed across all schools in the district to ensure wider coverage.
Dr. Th. Rajen Singh, Chief Medical Officer and District Mission Director, District Health Society Kakching, attended as Chief Guest, while Shri Mayanglambam Rakhesh, Zonal Education Officer, presided over the programme.
Other dignitaries present included Ch. Khomei, Principal of the host school; Smt. M. Bimola Devi, ICDS Supervisor; and Dr. Th. Shyamananda Singh, District Nodal Officer for Child Health.
ASHA workers and teachers actively participated in the campaign, supporting the administration of the tablets and awareness efforts.
Officials informed that a follow-up round will be conducted on April 7 to cover children who missed today’s dose.
National Deworming Day, an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, aims to improve the health, nutrition, and overall well-being of children aged 1 to 19 years by providing deworming treatment through schools and Anganwadi centres across the country.
