Kakching Trains Anganwadi Workers, Spreads Legal Awareness to Shield Children from Malnutrition and Trafficking

A three-day capacity-building programme for Anganwadi workers on Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi, organised by the ICDS Project Kakching under the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur, is underway at the Library and Information Centre, Kakching.

The training, held under the supervision of the District Administration Kakching, entered its second day today with sessions focusing on child nutrition, hygiene, and community engagement.

The day’s proceedings began with a recap and expectation-setting by Oinam Ibemhal, followed by an interactive session on the Protocol for Management of Malnutrition in Children, including Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM), Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM), and micronutrient deficiencies.

Julia Kom and W. Monteshwori engaged the participants through discussions, presentations, and role-play activities.

Further sessions highlighted dietary guidelines, personal hygiene, and sanitation practices for children aged 0–6 years, with insights from Bajilee and Seemarani.

Afternoon sessions covered growth monitoring using the Poshan Tracker and strategies for parental engagement, community mobilisation, and creating safe environments for children, facilitated by W. Binata and others. The training concludes tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the District Child Protection Unit, Kakching, also organised a legal awareness programme on child protection and trafficking at Sekmaijin Mayai Leikai Community Hall on Monday. The session, held for Village Level Federations (VLFs) under Sekmaijin Gram Panchayat, was led by resource persons Darngam Khaling, Member Secretary of CWC Tengnoupal, and Mala Lisham, Programme Officer of SCPS. Around 140 participants from five VLFs attended the programme.
