A day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned arrival in Manipur, women in Kakching District staged a strong protest declaring his visit “unwelcome” after what they called 28 months of silence during the state’s bloodiest phase of violence.
The demonstration was held at Pangaltabi Keithel and Tangjeng Khunou Community Hall.
Kakching District Apunba Meira Paibi Lup (KADAMPAL) Organisation Secretary R.K. Luxmi, addressing the media, said Modi had abandoned Manipur when people needed him most.
“Where was he when three innocent children and three women were killed after being held captive?” Luxmi remarked.
The protesters accused the Prime Minister of ignoring the humanitarian catastrophe while thousands languished in relief camps and hundreds lost their lives since May 3, 2023.
