“It’s an insult to think people’s votes can be bought with cash,” remarked political activist Sapamcha Kangleipal as he joined hands with internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Sawombung Relief Camp to repair their own road, abandoned by the authorities for the past two years.
With no help from the government or the local MLA of Lamlai AC, the IDPs, along with local clubs, took the initiative to fix the muddy and impassable entrance road to the camp in Imphal East today.
Kangleipal, who personally took part in the labour, slammed the MLA for ignoring the plight of his constituents throughout the ongoing crisis.
“Since the MLA has failed to visit or support his people, he might as well continue staying away,” said Kangleipal, adding that the residents, including school children and daily wage earners, have suffered long enough due to the dilapidated road.
