In a fresh escalation following the controversy surrounding Sangai Festival 2025, the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG-MC Unification) has reportedly imposed a two-year ban on actor-singer Hamom Sadananda, alleging that his participation in the festival amounted to disregarding the suffering of displaced people.
The group’s PRO, Chingkheinganba, also summoned 7 Sister Foundation executive Sunny Shimrah, AMIK general secretary Mayengbam Dhananjoy Singh, and Film Forum Manipur office-bearers Khagenbam Kuleswar and Laimayum Surjakanta Sharma for similar participation.
The move comes amid wider backlash from many groups and the masses that earlier condemned the festival as insensitive, deepening tensions at a time when public sentiment remains divided over holding celebrations while thousands remain displaced.
