KHEM’s EFFECT: Manipur CM, Deputy CMs Met PM on Lasting Peace & Development Today; Union Agri & Rural Ministry Approves 5,000 New Houses for IDPs

Feb 24, 2026 (New Delhi/Imphal): Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Smt. Nemcha Kipgen and Shri Losii Dikho, this afternoon (Tuesday) in New Delhi. During the meeting, the Chief Minister interacted with the Prime Minister, with the two Deputy Chief Ministers seated alongside him. The discussion focused on the restoration of lasting peace and the acceleration of new developmental initiatives in Manipur.

Meanwhile, the Central Government has approved 5,000 new houses for the rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Manipur under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY–G) for the financial year 2025–26. The approval was made during a meeting with Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan last evening at the Union Minister’s residence in New Delhi.

The state’s two Deputy Chief Ministers, Smt. Nemcha Kipgen and Shri Losii Dikho, accompanied Shri Khemchand Singh while meeting the Union Rural Development Minister.

Shri Chouhan warmly received the three Manipuri leaders and assured all possible assistance in their efforts to bring peace and normalcy to the state.

Earlier this month, the State Government submitted a proposal for a special project under PMAY–G for the construction of 5,000 houses for IDPs affected by the ethnic violence.

The Union Rural Development Ministry also approved a special window of the Awaas+ 2024 household survey for capturing details of eligible affected households. The State Government has been allowed to continue the process of registration of eligible affected beneficiaries under the special project of PMAY–G.

The Union Rural Development Ministry, however, directed the State Government that beneficiaries for the special project must be identified as per PMAY–G guidelines, and that identification and uploading of details of eligible beneficiaries must be completed through the Awaas+ 2024 mobile app. These houses shall be constructed as per the provisions of the Framework for Implementation (FFI) of PMAY–G.

The State Government has also been allowed to sanction houses for eligible beneficiaries under the special project who had earlier received assistance (one or more instalments) under PMAY–G, but whose houses were destroyed during the ethnic violence.
