Torrential floods have displaced over 56,500 people across Manipur, with one confirmed death reported, according to Relief and Disaster Management Director A.K. Ranjitkumar.
A total of 174 localities and villages have been affected, 10,477 houses damaged, and 2,913 residents evacuated. Although water levels are gradually receding, the situation remains critical.
In Kongba, the local power substation has been submerged, plunging the entire area into blackout during the night. Many homes are underwater, and residents continue to face extreme hardship.
Rescue and relief operations are being carried out by Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, NDRF, SDRF, Fire Service, and dedicated volunteers who are actively helping evacuate residents and deliver essential supplies. Using boats and wading through deep floodwaters, teams are working relentlessly to reach affected families.
A total of 57 relief camps have been opened to shelter the displaced. While the rainfall has subsided for now, fears remain that even a short spell could trigger more flooding. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urging coordinated efforts to scale up relief measures.
