KRA Ousts Five Cadres Involved in Killing Thadou Leader Nekham Jomhaio

The Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) in Assam, which is under Suspension of Operations (SoO), has owned up to the killing of Thadou leader Nekham Jomhaio by its cadres and has ousted five cadres involved in the abduction and murder.

The five cadres suspended by the outfit are Samson Kuki, Jangpu Hangsing, Mangneo Stilhou, Kakap Lenthang, and Thangmoi Hmar. The outfit also tendered its apology to the bereaved family and the public at large for the pain and suffering caused. It condemned the act, accepted moral responsibility for failing to prevent the incident, and acknowledged that the actions of its cadres had brought grief, shame, and discredit to the organization, according to a statement.

The incident has attracted widespread condemnation from student bodies and CSOs, including Manipur’s prominent CSO, Federation of Civil Society Organisations, Manipur (FOCS), which expressed grief that Nekham Jomhaio was a highly respected advocate for peaceful coexistence and a champion of Thadou identity and literature.

The KRA also clarified that the crime was carried out without the knowledge or sanction of its leadership, stressing that the cadres acted on their own.
