Kuki Group Demands Clarification, Condemns Manipur Governor for Meeting AT

Feb 26, 2025: The Kuki Organisation for Human Rights (KOHUR) has strongly criticised the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, for holding a meeting with leaders of Arambai Tenggol, whom they accused of perpetrating violence in the state.

KOHUR, according to a statement issued, accused the Governor of legitimising “a militia that has openly terrorised the Kuki-Zo community, looted state armouries, and targeted religious institutions.”

It also lambasted Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla for engaging in discussions with Korounganba Khuman and Robin Mangang, leaders of Arambai Tenggol, despite the group’s alleged notorious record of mass violence and destabilisation activities in Manipur.

KOHUR highlighted the irony of engaging with a group against whom the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The organisation demanded an immediate explanation from Governor Bhalla and called upon the Government of India to clarify whether such engagements with Arambai Tenggol now constitute official policy.
