Security forces on Sunday arrested two alleged drug peddlers, including a village chief, in separate anti-narcotics operations carried out in Kangpokpi and Bishnupur districts.
In the first operation, forces apprehended Lunkhohao Kipgen (43), the Chief of Gunphaibung village under Saikul Police Station, from Bongmoul village in Kangpokpi district. A total of 986 grams of opium along with a mobile phone was seized from his possession.
In a separate incident the same day, security forces manning the Moirang Police Station gate checkpoint in Bishnupur district detained Sheikh Basir Ahamad of Lilong Nungei, Thoubal district. During the frisking, personnel recovered three soap cases containing heroin powder weighing around 74 grams.
Both accused have been handed over to the respective police stations for further legal action.
