Kuki-Zo Council Calls for Security on NH-02 While Insisting Route is Trouble-Free

In what many see as a contradictory stance, the Kuki-Zo Council has appealed to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for deployment of Central Security Forces along National Highway-02, even while insisting that the highway remains incident-free.

The council’s statement, issued following a resolution at the Kangpokpi public meeting on July 29, declared there had been “no untoward incidents” in recent months affecting commuters or the flow of essential goods on the Imphal–Dimapur route via Kangpokpi.

Despite this claim of safety, it urged the Centre to step in with stronger security arrangements to “ensure safety” along the lifeline highway.

This apparent double-speak—denying problems on one hand while demanding protection on the other—has raised eyebrows among observers, especially as many commuters expressed concerns about the vulnerability of supply lines in the state.

The council further called upon Kangpokpi residents to cooperate with security forces once deployed.

The appeal was signed by eight officials, including Chairman Henlianthang Thanglet, Coordinator Ch. Ajang Khongsai, and General Secretary Thangzamang, among others.
