Kuki-Zo mass rally called off after Centre intervention

Feb. 18, 2025: The Kuki-Zo mass rally for ‘Separate Administration,’ which was earlier planned for today to demand ‘Separate Administration/UT’ in the state, has been called off following the intervention of the central authority.

The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), the leading organization representing the Kuki-Zo communities in Manipur, announced the cancellation after the central government asked for it to be canceled, coinciding with the imposition of President’s Rule in the state.

The rally was organized to address the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur and to demand the creation of a separate administration or Union Territory with its own legislature for the Kuki-Zo tribals. The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) had earlier asked all Kuki frontal organizations to hold the rally across six districts in Manipur—Pherzawl, Tengnoupal, Jiribam, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Chandel—where the Kuki-Zo community forms the majority.

Prior to the cancellation, the KZC had expressed its support for the imposition of President’s Rule, with the hope that this step would help pave the way for a political resolution to the ongoing crisis.
