Kuki-Zo People in Moreh and Chandel Hold Mass Rally Demanding Separation from Manipur

JAN 14, 2026 (Moreh/IMP): Amid speculation about the reinstatement of a new popular government in Manipur, Kuki-Zo people in the border town of Moreh and in Chandel held rallies on Wednesday demanding a political solution for the Kuki-Zo people.

Raising slogans such as “Separation is the only solution” and “We cannot be a part of the Meitei government,” the rally also demanded a separate administration. In Moreh, the rally started from Galngam Lantol Ground in Ward No. 3 and proceeded to the Hill Tribal Council (HTC) office complex.

The rally was organised by several Kuki-Zo civil society organisations based in Moreh. A total shutdown was also observed in Moreh from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. due to the rally.

Meanwhile, similar rallies were also organised in Kuki-Zo–inhabited areas of Chandel district.
It may be mentioned here that the Kuki-Zo Council has urged Kuki-Zo MLAs to support their demand for a Union Territory.
