Kuki-Zo Welcomes PM Modi’s Visit to CCpur; Calls It a “Historic and Rare Occasion”

Calling the forthcoming visit of PM Narendra Modi to Churachandpur “a historic and rare occasion,” as it comes nearly four decades after an Indian Prime Minister last visited the region, the Kuki-Zo community in Churachandpur expressed its warm welcome to the Prime Minister of India.

The district has witnessed fast-paced renovation and decoration works, along with the construction of a mammoth makeshift structure in the district headquarters. The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), in a statement, said that the people (Kuki-Zo) are confident the PM will give due recognition to their voice and aspirations, and they place their trust in his leadership to heal wounds, restore dignity, and safeguard the future of the Kuki-Zo people.

The statement also added that for years, they have been voicing the demand for complete separation from Manipur, seeking a separate administration in the form of a Union Territory with a legislature under Article 239A of the Indian Constitution. This demand, it said, arises not from convenience but from the necessity for peace, security, and survival of their people.
