In a display of dissent, Kuki-Zo women convened at Gamgiphai in Kangpokpi district to voice their apprehensions regarding a recent governmental decision.
The initiative reportedly permits members of the Meitei community to enter Kuki-Zo dominated areas for pilgrimage purposes.
Organised by the women’s wing of the COTU, the protest highlighted the lack of consultation and unilateral nature of the decision.
The COTU women articulated their concerns, emphasising the necessity of peaceful negotiations between the two communities to mitigate potential tensions.
Criticising the move as prejudicial, they asserted that allowing Meitei women to cross into their areas without prior dialogue constitutes a disregard for the Kuki-Zo community’s interests.
Warning against further movement across the buffer zone, the Kuki-Zo women called for meaningful discussions under the auspices of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Recently, a tripartite meeting convened in New Delhi under the Ministry of Home Affairs failed to yield a resolution, highlighting the complexity of the issue.
