KVS Relocates Riot-Hit Students to Imphal Schools via Lottery System

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has successfully relocated more than 450 Meitei students displaced by the 2023 ethnic violence in Manipur from KV Leimakhong to three Kendriya Vidyalayas in Imphal: Lamphelpat, Langjing, and Akampat.

The allocation was carried out through a lottery system on Tuesday at KV Lamphelpat, ensuring fairness in seat distribution. To maintain transparency, the entire process was live-streamed on Facebook and YouTube, allowing parents and community members to witness the draw in real time.

The ethnic clashes had forced nearly 650 students from the Meitei community to abandon the Leimakhong campus. Around 200 students were absorbed in earlier phases, and this latest lottery marks the completion of the relocation process. “Our priority was to restore normalcy for these children and safeguard their academic continuity,” said Taorem Pritam, Deputy Commissioner of KVS (Tinsukia Region).

Pritam also noted that surplus Meitei teaching staff from Leimakhong may be reassigned to other schools in the Tinsukia region or given alternative postings as per safety protocols.

Students at the receiving campuses welcomed their new peers, while parents expressed gratitude for the transparent process and swift action by the authorities.
