March 12, 2025 : The Kuki-Zo-sponsored indefinite total shutdown along the highways has now received widespread condemnation from other ethnic communities, in addition to the Meiteis. Strongly condemning the shutdown, the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO) has warned the government to lift the shutdown within 24 hours or face consequences.
The shutdown has caused immense hardship to the general public, affecting their daily lives, livelihoods, and access to essential services. The NPO urged the government to take immediate action to restore normalcy, stating that failure to do so would result in the Naga people taking their own course of action, according to a press statement. It called on the government to take immediate steps to lift the total shutdown and restore essential services. Failure to comply will lead to further action, including legal recourse.
In Manipur, Advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs (North East), AK Mishra, led two important meetings in the state—one with representatives of the Federation of Civil Society (FOCS) in Imphal and another with Kuki-Zo leaders in Churachandpur. While the meeting with FOCS was deemed productive, discussions with Kuki-Zo leaders ended without any concrete resolutions.
