Justice continues to elude families of fake encounter victims in Manipur due to the prolonged denial of prosecution sanction against personnel of central armed forces, said Renu, President of the Extra-Judicial Execution Victim Families Association, Manipur (EEVFAM).
She made the statement during the 16th Foundation Day of EEVFAM held at Lamyanba Shanglen in Imphal East, under the theme “Respect the Rights of the Victims.”
Speaking at the event, Renu pointed out that many families who have been fighting for justice under AFSPA-related fake encounter cases are now doubly victimized, as they have also suffered in the ongoing Manipur crisis.
The programme also featured the release of the book “United Nations Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement” by Human Rights Alert (HRA), Manipur International Youth Centre (MIYC), and Youth Collective Manipur (YCM), aimed at spreading awareness on displacement and victims’ rights.
The event also witnessed a two-minute silence and floral tributes in memory of those killed in extrajudicial incidents, reinforcing EEVFAM’s long-standing demand for justice, accountability, and respect for victims’ rights.
