March 4, 2025: Responding to a public appeal by the Governor of Manipur, a substantial cache of arms and ammunition was voluntarily surrendered to the Bishnupur District Police today. The move is seen as a significant step towards restoring peace and security in the region.
The surrendered weapons from the CDO Unit Bishnupur include 2 Self-Loading Rifles (SLR) with two empty magazines, 1 INSAS rifle with two magazines and 36 rounds, 2 Light Machine Gun (LMG) magazines (empty) and 9 extra rounds, 1 .303 rifle with two magazines, 1 smoke shell (green), 15 live rounds and 3 misfired rounds of .303 ammunition, 1 Single Barrel Breech Loading (SBBL) gun, 5 detonators, and 1 hand grenade. From Kumbi Police Station, 2 locally made bolt-action rifles and 1 improvised pistol with a magazine were surrendered. At PGCI Police Station, authorities received 1 Sub-Machine Gun (SMG) Carbine with an empty magazine and 1 single-barrel gun.
Police officials have lauded the voluntary surrender, emphasizing that such efforts will contribute significantly to reducing violence and illegal arms possession in the district. Law enforcement authorities have reiterated their appeal for others in possession of illegal weapons to surrender them in the interest of public safety and security.
