Feb 28, 2025 : In a crucial move to ensure the surrender of looted and illegally held weapons, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has extended the deadline by another seven days.
The new deadline now stands at 4 PM on March 6, 2025, offering a final opportunity for individuals to turn in illegal arms without facing punitive action.
The initial appeal, made on February 20, 2025, received a positive response from various communities across the Valley and Hills. However, with demands from both regions for additional time, the Governor has decided to grant an extension, reinforcing the commitment to restoring peace and security.
Governor Bhalla reiterated that no legal action would be taken against those who voluntarily surrender their weapons during this extended period. However, after the deadline, strict law enforcement operations will be carried out, and anyone found in possession of illegal arms will face legal consequences.
“This is the last opportunity for all concerned to contribute to peace, communal harmony, and the security of our society,” the Governor stated, urging those still in possession of such arms to surrender them at the nearest police station, outpost, or security forces camp before the new deadline.
