Lilong’s Zahir Khan Shines Globally with Scholarship Win; Social Worker Haji Abdul Wahid Promises New Home and Aid for Family

In a proud moment for Manipur, Makakmayum Zahir Khan, son of Makakmayum Jamaluddin and Mrs. Saherjan of Lilong Leihaokhong, has secured a place among only 12 students worldwide — and the only one from India — to win a full scholarship at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional (UPN) Veteran Jakarta, Indonesia.

Zahir Khan’s achievement was recently highlighted in an interview with a local digital media platform, bringing widespread attention to his journey and inspiring many across the state.

The recognition also came as a ray of hope for his family, who have long struggled with financial hardships and inadequate housing. Recognizing both his talent and the family’s struggles, Haji Abdul Wahid, a noted philanthropist and social worker from Lilong, well-known for his welfare initiatives in education and healthcare, visited their residence today and extended a gesture of solidarity and support.

He announced that he will construct a new house for Zahir’s family and provide financial assistance for the medical treatment of his ailing father. This act of generosity not only uplifts Zahir’s family but also adds greater significance to the young scholar’s success story.

Speaking on the occasion, Haji Abdul Wahid said Zahir’s achievement is not just a personal victory but a matter of pride for the entire state. He urged other youths of Manipur to take inspiration from Zahir’s dedication and hard work.

Zahir, overwhelmed by the support, expressed gratitude to his well-wishers and vowed to make Manipur proud on the global stage. His success has sparked joy in Lilong and beyond, turning his story into an inspiration for many aspiring students across the state.
